Will we take in the refugees?

629 refugees currently wait aboard a migrant rescue boat after both Italy then Malta refused to allow the vessel to dock.

The boat, the ‘Aquarius’, is currently drifting between Malta and Sicily while Spain’s new government is put under pressure to allow its occupants safe passage into their country.

Awaiting their fate on board are reported to be 123 unaccompanied minors, 11 small children and seven pregnant women, all of whom were picked up at different locations off the coast of Libya.

Our new socialist government is yet to outline its policy on refugees, but here unfolds a situation which may force them to do so sooner than intended.

The new minister of defence, Margarita Robles, has hinted at the possibility of imminent action being taken by Spain, stating that within the EU, Spain has “a need and obligation” to help refugees.

Under the spotlight of World News, let’s see if we make a start by helping these…
