Fighting Prostate Cancer: From the Laboratory to the Patient

A two-hour workshop “Fighting Cancer: From The Laboratory To The Patient” will take place at the Harley-Davidson 99% Moto Bar, at Joan Güell, 207. From 9:00 to 12:00 on 23rd of November we will have the opportunity to discover how research is developing new treatments to fight cancer.

The number of new cancer cases until 2025 will increase by 5.5% for men and 11.9% for women. In addition to that, the highest risk for prostate cancer will be for people over 55.
This workshop is organized by The Prostate Net, a patient education and prostate cancer advocacy group, Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), and Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL). Both institutions have recently expanded their research activities incorporating new pre-clinical and clinical research groups aimed at solving prostate cancer sooner.
In two hours you will have the opportunity to explore the processes involved in bringing new therapies to the patient level. Also, the meeting will include talks, with the possibility of interaction with   questions and informal discussions amongst speakers and attendees on the following topics:
  • Where does a new drug come from? Dr. Eva Estébanez, Universidad de Barcelona
  • From the laboratory to the patient: a round trip. Dr. Álvaro Aytes, IDIBELL
  • Myths about patient tests: What is a clinical trial? Dr. Joaquín Mateo, VHIO
  • Developing a clinical trial –from the idea to the results. Sr. François Riva, MedSIR
  • How research improves the way radiotherapy is given.
This will be the first in a series of informational sessions that Prostate Net, VHIO and IDIBELL will organize in Barcelona to promote awareness surrounding progress driven by prostate cancer research, as well as the diversity of high-level prostate cancer research groups in Barcelona. These programs are supported by an educational grant from Augmenix, Inc.
